The world doesn't become more beautiful when we start paying attention. We just become better at seeing what was already there.

I think that's one of the things photography has taught me.

Beauty is easy to recognize when it announces itself. A mountain breaking through the clouds. A sunset setting the whole sky on fire. An animal you've waited years to see. There are moments that practically ask to be photographed.

But most of life doesn't look like that.

Most of it is ordinary.
